For the next four days Time+Tide will be coming to you live from Watches & Wonders in Hong Kong – Asia-Pacific’s own watch fair, and the largest of its kind outside of Switzerland, with 11 brands from the Richemont stable exhibiting. Including Cartier, IWC, JLC, Piaget, Van Cleef & Arpels, Montblanc, Roger Dubuis, Vacheron Constantin, Baume & Mercier and Panerai. Richard Mille is also bringing the heat.

Why is it in Hong Kong? Last year, a whopping 54% of Swiss watches sold were in the Asia-Pacific region making it the single biggest export market. This honour has been held since 2008, when the Asia-Pacific region overtook the United States as the major buyer of Swiss watches.

The reasons mount up, but even without them, we love the concept. Because, NO JETLAG. It’s early on the first day, but already the third edition of the fair is living up to its name – the watches are indeed wonderful – and in general the fair has a distinctly haute horlogerie edge. We’ve seen grand complications from Cartier, dazzling diamonds from Piaget and mechanical masterpieces from Montblanc and Richard Mille.

And we’re trying something new. For the first time Time+Tide is providing extensive, live video coverage of the fair. This doesn’t mean that we’ll be neglecting to give you up-to-the-minute updates on Instagram, and our first looks at all the hottest releases. But we’ll also be coming at you with live-on-the-wrist video reviews, interviews with industry leaders, and a behind the scenes look at all the drama and style of the fair.

This is a new exciting adventure for us, and we’re quite excited (if a little nervous about getting in front of the camera). But we hope that over the next few days checking into Time+Tide’s Watches & Wonders coverage will be the next best thing to being there.
