LIST: Chris Hemsworth is TAG Heuer’s newest ambassador, so here are five watches he should have worn on film

TAG Heuer have just announced that Australia’s own Chris Hemsworth is joining their team of high-powered brand ambassadors. He’ll fit in perfectly with big Tom Brady, feisty Cara Delevingne and D-Floor destroyer David Guetta. In terms of pressure and cracking and so on, we’re pretty confident he’ll be fine, in any circumstance – after all, he’s saved the world with a hammer the size of a hatchback, he’s survived alien attacks and he’s done it all with glorious hair. To celebrate, we’ve put together a list that reimagines Hemsworth’s five greatest films with TAG Heuer watches on the wrist. You are most welcome.

Thor (and all the other Avengers movies)

There’s no doubt in our minds that Thor would wear the Carrera Heuer 01 – though not because he needs to check the time – he’s a god, and the only time he tells is hammer time. The real reason he’d go for the Heuer 01 is to make tech-loving Tony Stark jealous – a perfectly legitimate motivation.

Rush

It’s got to be the Silverstone. Of course, fans of the film will remember that Hemsworth’s James Hunt actually wore a solid gold Carrera chronograph while it was Daniel Brühl’s Nicki Lauda who wore a Silverstone. So why the switcheroo? Well, according to an excellent story by Miguel Seabra at Worldtempus, there was a mix-up with the watches loaned by the TAG Heuer Museum during filming, and the Carrera like the one Lauda used to wear in real life ended up on pretty-boy Hemsworth’s wrist. Oops.

Blackhat

In this year’s Blackhat Hemsworth plays a hacker on the wrong side of an international terrorist incident. The obvious choice is the Connected watch, but no paranoid hacker worth his salt would trust a device that could be used by the authorities to track his movements. Which is why we’re going with the resolutely analogue Monaco V4 Phantom. Mainly because it’s all black. Like the hat.

Red Dawn

If we’re honest, the 2012 remake of the Swayze classic isn’t Hemsworth’s finest hour, but that doesn’t mean Jed Eckert shouldn’t rock a nice timepiece. The Aquaracer 300 Calibre 16 is tough and stealthy enough to serve active duty in a teenage guerrilla army.

Snow White and the Huntsman

This is a tricky one, not least because a medieval/fantasy/fairytale hero wearing a wristwatch poses all kinds of tricky era-appropriate questions. But if we were forced to choose, we’d pick the Calibre 18 Telemeter, mostly because it’s slim enough to fit underneath the Huntsman’s leather armour, would look boss with leather gloves (the perforations in the strap make it play very nicely indeed with leather jackets) and the dial and indices have a snowy, silvery lightness in the metal that’s not quite captured by the photographs.
