WATCHSPOTTING: George Clooney wore an Omega De Ville Trésor at his wedding

Yes, it’s confirmed. George Clooney wore an Omega De Ville Trésor at his wedding. But that’s not the story. The story is that he could have worn anything from the Omega stable and it would have made sense.

But first, just put yourself in George Clooney’s position for a moment. You’re an Omega ambassador. You have every.single.Omega.in.the.history.of.mankind at your disposal for your wedding day. Which do you choose? For a man as classic, as sartorial, as smooth as Clooney it had to be from the De Ville family. This was already a lock, right?

Not necessarily. First, can you imagine him in a Moon Watch? By George, yes! After his turn on Gravity that would be quite fitting.

And a Constellation? Too easy. He’s something of a vintage legend himself. And he favours the ’40s and ’50s as an era to make films about.

So, frankly my dears, he could have damn well worn anything from the Omega collection with aplomb. But his choice on the day was perhaps the most understated of all options, the 40mm 18k white gold De Ville Trésor released at Baselworld this year.

Note some of the finer details like the silvery opaline dial with a domed vintage clous de Paris pattern. Like all Trésor models, dating back to the first in 1949, it has a thin case (the original held the legendary 30mm calibre) but unlike the original it has a state of the art anti-magnetic Master Co-Axial calibre 8511 manual winding movement. Note also the case back. The plate structure is something of a peacock tail, with pops of colour provided by the 30 jewels. Magnifique.
