Spray tan gone horribly wrong? Sean Connery as Bond in Goldfinger, released in 1964.

To honour a James Bond film that none of the Time+Tide team were alive to see when it came out 50 years ago, Goldfinger, OMEGA has gone to the smelter to create a one-of-a-kind Seamaster Aqua Terra in a rippling 18K yellow gold.

This ‘piece unique’ sold for $125kAUD on Wednesday 17th September as part of an online auction that celebrated the renowned James Bond film. True to watch auction form of late, (and also here, at the ‘Red’ Auction put on by Jony Ive and Bono, with a little help from Marc Newson. We tried the watch on here.) the winning bid was nearly eight times the estimated value of the watch.

According to Omega, the timepiece was the most successful item in the online auction and it was the only item to make such a drastic jump from its published estimated price to its final price.
